American Pie is the only company in the world created for
the specific purpose of translating in either direction between
British and American texts. We handle all types of material
ranging from press releases and house journals to engineering
manuals and even cookbooks.
Examples of our work include tourist advertising for the State
of Florida and Avis Rent-a-Car, nutritional documentation,
and machine tool and medical imaging equipment manuals. We
even anglicise/americanize childrens' books.
British and American English are slowly but surely becoming
more and more distinct. The differences are no longer limited
to different spellings of the same word. Whole writing styles
need to be adjusted for the different audiences on each side
of the Atlantic and elsewhere in the English-speaking world.
Since 1973, when the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic
joined the European Economic Community, a series of far-reaching
changes has occurred to weights and measures, the law and
many other aspects of life in the British Isles, separating
them even further from their counterparts in the United States.
Furthermore, the US is now the only country in the world that
does not routinely use metric measurements. Any text which
includes any reference to measurements should be reviewed
to see if different British and American versions are required.
This ranges from cook books to scientific text books.
For a modest initial fee, we will review any text submitted
to us, prepare a report on the need for different versions
and give a quotation for the necessary work.
